meditation room

scoil chriost ri

Picture
The next element of this commission was to transform a classroom into a meditation room, creating an atmosphere of quiet contemplation .
To do this I worked with Fine Interior Woodwork , cabinet makers, to make a series of presses with illuminated niches between them .The room was finished with soft voile curtains.
The  doors of the lower presses are carved with symbols of world religions. The first 2 upper doors have the Serenity Prayer, and the next two doors have part of "Footsteps in the Sand", carved within them.
The back panels depict: the Creation Story; Nano Nagle, and St. Brigid. On the wall facing the cabinets there is a meditation mandala.
These themes were arrived at through consultation with the school
