The artwork consists of 9 vertical panels,each 88cm wide,and between 3 and 6m in length, which are made up of a mosaic of images that illustrate the rich diversity of activities that together provide for the educational, personal and spiritual development of this school community.
The artwork is about every thing that makes the students what they are and how the school nurtures their development and enables them to become complete people.
The images used in the artwork were arrived at through workshops with the students.The girls looked at both academic and extra curricular activities; inspirational women, and flowers, representing their blossoming as they progress through the school.There are over 500 individual images in the artwork• The artwork links the science based activities based downstairs in the school with the arts and practical subjects based upstairs.
• This artwork is also based on the Ceist Charter, and endeavours to encompass all its various elements, from“the promotion of excellence in teaching and learning“, to” the empowerment of its members as responsible citizens and good stewards of the earth.”
• The images that form the basis of the artwork consider such elements as: academic activities, sport; Green Schools; Gaisce; choir; work experience; the Presentation Sisters; cultural diversity; inspirational women - particularly Irish women; school trips, and debating.
• This artwork will enrich the school environment and foster a pride and excitement in the education provided.
• Each individual will have some aspect of this artwork that they can personally relate
• Circles within the artwork echo the circular skylights in this area of the school building.
• The artwork works on the two physical levels of this part of the school building, viewed as a series of merging colours from a distance, and as a mosaic of images close up.
• The richness of content means that the students will discover new things within this artwork as they progress through their schooling in Scoil Chriost Ri.
